CodeOrlando is a program designed to inspire and teach young, underserved minority and female students about technology so that they are more likely to pursue education and careers in the fascinating and critical world of technology.

About

Fueled and facilitated by the passions of Aaron Gordon from the Orlando Magic, through the Gordon Family Giving Foundation (GF2),  CodeOrlando seeks to introduce young students to coding, robotics and even nanotechnology, through fun, interesting and immersive experiences. Our programs emphasize life skills too, like teamwork, mindfulness and public speaking. We sponsor school robotics programs and introduce elementary school kids to coding.

The Gordon Family Giving Foundation (GF2)

The Gordon Family Giving Foundation also serves immediate critical community needs by partnering with important community resource groups and delivering everything from food and clothing to low income recipients as well as sponsoring free basketball camps for homeless and foster children. We partner with many generous agencies to deliver these services, including mynewredshoes.org, the Drew Gooden Foundation, and Nike Inc.

Planning is underway for a 4-week Summer CodeOrlando Intensive Tech Immersion program in July of 2019. The program will serve 8th - 12th graders, and will be free based on need. We are targeting students from underrepresented communities.

Participants will engage in hands-on project based learning with emphasis on coding and computer science skills as well as visit local colleges, tech development companies, and organizations using technology to help people and our planet. They will receive valuable instruction from Aaron Gordon on mindfulness, presentation skills, and life skills. Students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives of Orlando based technology companies such as EA Sports and Advent Health.

Mentoring

We are looking for talented technologists who are passionate about STEM related subjects; anything from electrical engineering, game coding to VR and 3D imaging.

Many of our students may be the first to consider college, and may not otherwise be exposed to the fascinating and critical world of coding, engineering, aerospace technology and robotics. You will lead a small group of students as they explore various branches of technology and assist them as they work on their own projects to solve a problem, demonstrate a concept or create code for an application.

Partners

We partner with local schools, industries and technologists to support and encourage our students. We increase the pipeline of students into science, technology, engineering, math and critical technology fields.

Code Orlando Advisory Team

We aim to affect systematic change in Orlando’s growing technology industries by directing programs toward youth groups who remain underserved and underrepresented in the vital technology development that continues to shape our lives and our futures. We expect that CodeOrlando will capture and feed the interests of more female, more African-American and more Latino students throughout the greater Orlando area.
